Description:
Fred Pike established his home decorating and hardware store on Plenty Road, near the Bell Street intersection in 1890. It was to operate from that site for the next seventy years. Pike was followed in the business, firstly by his son Fred G. Pike Jnr., and later by his grandsons Fred C. and John Pike. One of the features of their store was a life size model of a highlander, complete with kilt on the roof of the veranda.
